The International Association for Research on Textbooks and Educational Media (IARTEM) in co-operation with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Berlin is pleased to invite professionals from all over the world who work in the field of educational media and textbooks research and development to participate in the thirteenth IARTEM conference.
The conference will take place in Berlin, Germany, 11–13 September 2015.
The theme of the conference will be: Learning, Classroom Resources and Disciplines

- School subject-based research on educational media and textbooks
- Research on STEM based (Science, Mathematics, Technology and Media) classroom resources
- Research on Humanities (Geography, History, Civics, Economics, Social Science) classroom resources
- Research on Language (first, foreign, second language and Content Language Integrated Learning) classroom resources
- Teacher education for using educational media and textbooks in the classroom
- Higher Education (University) use of educational media and textbooks
- The use of textbooks and educational media in schools
- Educational publishing challenges in new media
- Designing learning resources
- Textbook selection and approval
- Changes in evaluating textbooks and educational media
- Mobile learning research
- History of educational media and textbook development, usage and production
- Transmedia learning systems
- Learning resources and transliteracy
- Language in textbooks and educational media
- Equity, access and funding of textbooks and educational media
- Identities in textbooks and educational media
- New methods in educational media and textbook research (e.g. learning analytics, eye tracking)
- Comparative education research on representation and impact of teaching and learning resources
- Future citizenship in educational texts and policy
- Special education and educational media
- Local culture in educational media
The program will include:
• PHD Day on Thursday 10 September 2015
PhD students will present their research projects (research problem, research design, methodology). Experienced researchers will provide comments on dissertation projects presented by PhD students. The PhD students presenting their projects are entitled to receive 4 credits (ECTS) and will receive a certificate of achievement from IARTEM.
• Roundtable Workshops
The normal presentation format will be oral presentation followed by discussion with potential publication (see below).
However, there will also be the opportunity to propose and organise roundtable workshops.
A number of roundtable workshops on combined projects will be proposed (i.e. Teaching standards: Classroom teaching and learning materials; textbooks in higher education etc.).
Participants are advised that when submitting abstracts they may also propose roundtable workshops.
• Local School Visit
The visit of a primary and lower secondary school in Berlin will be arranged for conference participants.
Publications
The working language will be English, and all abstracts will be written in English. Papers can be submitted after the conference.
Conference Proceedings
All papers presented may be published in the conference volume, subject to a process of editing and review by leading researchers.
IARTEM e-Journal
Additionally extended versions of papers may be submitted to the IARTEM e-Journal and be subject to the usual process of journal peer review.
Journal Special Issues
A number of journal special issues related to conference themes mainly with a subject focus are being negotiated.

- IARTEM members: 140 Euro
- IARTEM membership (two years): 50 Euro
- PhD and Master students: 60 Euro
- Conference dinner: 40 Euro
